Research Study: Sleep and Wellness Behaviours in Night Shift Health Care Workers

My name is Catherine Anderson. I am currently studying MSc Health Psychology at Sheffield Hallam University. I would like to invite you to participate in this research study about the behaviours you use to manage sleep duration and quality, in addition to diet and physical activity, and whether this influences your health and well-being.

You have been asked to participate in this study as it focuses on individuals employed within a healthcare environment who work regular night-time shifts. If you decided to participate in the study you will be required to complete a survey including five short questionnaires about your sleep behaviour, diet, exercise, stress, and quality of life. The survey is a one-time completion, you will not be asked for any further information after completion. There is no designated time to complete the survey, you will be able to complete this online at a time that is convenient for you. It should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete.

Your results of the survey will be completely anonymous therefore no one will be able to identify your results and they cannot be withdrawn from the study. However your results will remain confidential, only myself and my supervisor will have access to the data. If you change your mind about participation when completing the survey, you can stop and exit the browser, and the results you have already provided will be disregarded and not included in the study.

Your participation in this study is entirely voluntary; you are not obliged to take part. You have been approached as an employee within a healthcare environment with a view that you might be interested in taking part; this does not mean you have to. If you do not wish to take part you do not have to give a reason and you will not be contacted again. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me via email at catherine.l.anderson@student.shu.ac.uk with any questions, I will be happy to answer them.

By proceeding to complete the survey online you are consenting to participation in this study, and giving permission for member of the research team to have access to you anonymised responses. If you do not wish to proceed with the survey, please close and exit your browser now.

In the event that you feel distressed by participation in this study, please contact your GP or local wellbeing support service.
