Birmingham Maternity & Midwifery Festival 2026
Wednesday 13 May 2026 | Cranmore Avenue,
Shirley, Solihull, B90
Emma Gilpin, a senior NHS nurse, is leading a Reach-initiated project working in partnership with midwives and community service to support families when a limb difference is identified during or after pregnancy.
Emma is working to bridge the gap between maternity, neonatal, and community services, helping professionals feel confident in conversations and ensuring families are not left feeling isolated.

At the Midwifery Festivals, she will discuss the Reach Liaison Nurse Project and invite midwives to contribute to a short survey aimed at evaluating the current levels of confidence, communication, and referral pathways for these rare visible conditions often in otherwise healthy babies.
Feedback from the survey is vital in developing a service that genuinely supports families and fits alongside existing maternity pathways. The goal is to establish a permanent liaison nurse role to provide timely, compassionate support and clear guidance for affected families.
