Alicia Burnett
Alicia Burnett is a registered midwife, and former paediatric nurse working on a midwife helpline for Black and mixed Black heritage women. With her personal experience of pregnancy and baby loss combined with her professional experience of supporting bereaved parents, Alicia founded Black Baby Loss Awareness Week in May 2023 to bring attention to the disproportionately high rates of pregnancy and baby loss in Black communities, and raise Black communities’ awareness of the professionals and services that provide care and support for those who have experienced these types of loss.
As a natural progression, Black Baby Loss Awareness C.I.C was established as a platform to improve healthcare professionals, service providers, and policymakers’ understanding of the experiences and needs of Black and mixed Black heritage families in the UK affected by baby loss and provide practical guidance around meeting these needs.
