Dr Anne Leyland

Anne is an experienced midwifery lecturer with a specialist interest in bereavement education within undergraduate midwifery curricula. Her PhD explored the role of simulation in enhancing midwifery students’ skills and confidence in providing compassionate care to parents experiencing unexpected baby loss. Her research focused on developing the communication skills, clinical competence, and empathy required to support families during this profoundly challenging time.

Since completing her PhD, Anne has continued to publish on bereavement education in midwifery, with a particular focus on innovative teaching strategies that prepare future midwives to deliver compassionate, high-quality, evidence-based bereavement care.
