A major national event aimed at UK student midwives has opened a call for papers, inviting submissions from across the country for a one-day celebration of student experience and innovation in midwifery education.
The Student Midwife Experience Festival 2025 will take place on Wednesday 12 November at Leicester University, with the event simultaneously streamed to lecture theatres at midwifery schools across the UK and available to view online.

Organisers are calling on student midwives to share their stories, experiences, and academic work through talks and poster presentations. The deadline for paper submissions is Friday 22 August 2025.
Addressing the Realities of Student Midwifery
With midwifery education under increasing scrutiny, the shocking lack of jobs —and questions mounting over placement supervision, post-qualification jobs, and student wellbeing—the festival aims to provide a national platform for student midwives to speak up about the challenges they face and the solutions they’re creating.
Confirmed themes include:
- Life after qualification – getting that job.
- Placement support and supervision
- Mental health and student wellbeing
- Balancing study and life
- Diversity and inclusion
- Global placements
- Final year research and dissertation projects
The event is free to attend and open to all year groups, midwifery societies, and their teaching staff. Attendees are encouraged to host campus watch parties, join regionally, or travel to the main event in Leicester.
“This festival is about giving student midwives a national stage,” said Neil Stewart, Editorial Director of Maternity & Midwifery Forum. “It’s a chance to be heard, share innovative practice, and build community across the country.”
Make Your Voice Heard
Presenters will have the opportunity to deliver a 15-minute seminar with Q&A, or submit a poster presentation for display during the festival. All accepted content will be professionally filmed or recorded and added to a digital box set of presentations available to the wider maternity and healthcare community.
- Organisers say presenting at the festival will help students:
- Showcase best practice to peers and professionals
- Build a professional portfolio
- Contribute to a growing national archive of student midwifery voices
- Receive national recognition for their work
“Your Work Matters”
The call for papers is open now, with applications encouraged from students with projects, ideas, and student society experiences to share—particularly those reflecting on placement diversity, continuity of care, human rights, or running student-led societies.
