Fiona Walker
Fiona is a final year undergraduate student of midwifery at the University of Bradford. Her research topic focuses on the maternity experiences of forced migrant women with an emphasis on trauma-informed care and health inequalities. This interest has been shaped by her experiences in clinical practice where she has observed the barriers some women face in accessing and engaging with maternity services, and how small changes in practice can make a big difference to women’s experiences. Fiona’s dissertation explores how language barriers, fear of authorities and difficulties navigating services can influence a woman’s experiences. Fiona is particularly interested in improving outcomes for vulnerable populations through collaborative practice and equitable care provision. Fiona aims to pursue a career working with vulnerable women and families with a focus on delivering compassionate, trauma-informed care and advocating for marginalised women within maternity services.
