Cytamegalovirus (CMV) is a common virus that anyone can catch, usually with little effect or symptoms. However, if a pregnant woman contracts CMV and passes this on to her unborn baby, it can cause a range of physical and learning disabilities. About 1,000 babies are affected every year in the UK.
CMV Action is a national charity committed to raising awareness of congenital (cCMV) amongst prospective parents, families and the health professionals who care for pregnant women. We want everyone to know about the simple hygiene methods that can limit the impact of the virus. We also offer advice and support to anyone affected.
CMV Action’s vision for the future is one where fewer babies in the UK are born with CMV and better support in place for those who are affected.
