Nisha Nadeem

Nisha Nadeem is a third-year student midwife with a particular interest in supporting vulnerable and marginalised women and addressing inequalities within maternity care. Throughout her training, she has developed a strong interest in the experiences of women whose voices are often overlooked and in the role midwives play in advocating for and supporting women during some of the most significant moments of their lives.

Her dissertation explored the experiences of postnatal care received by perinatal women in prison. Inspired by caring for a woman during clinical placement whose circumstances highlighted the challenges some women face during the postnatal period, Nisha was motivated to investigate the experiences of women in custodial settings and consider what these experiences can teach healthcare professionals about providing equitable, compassionate, and woman-centred care.

Nisha is passionate about promoting dignity, choice, and support for all women, regardless of their circumstances. Through sharing her research, she hopes to raise awareness of the unique challenges faced by women in prison and encourage discussion about how maternity services can better meet their needs.
