Sharon has an extensive nursing and midwifery career in the NHS and Education. She worked as a Team Midwife for several years before joining Anglia Ruskin University as a Midwifery Lecturer. She led the post-registration Newborn Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) Course and was instrumental in its inclusion in the pre-registration midwifery curriculum, before taking on roles and responsibility as Director of Continuing Professional Development and Head of Department for Medicine & Healthcare Science, she is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her passion and publications have mainly focused on the examination of the newborn, including her Doctorate in Professional Clinical Practice; “Integration of examination of the newborn into holistic midwifery practice: a grounded theory study.” Sharon has also worked as a Public Health Midwife and for the last five years as Head of Nursing and Midwifery Transformation and Head of System Workforce for Mid & South Essex ICB.
