Karen Jewell is the Nursing Officer for Maternity & Early Years at the Office of the CNO in Wales. As an advisor to the Welsh government, she has been an important driver of change and an integral part of sculpting the 5 Year Vision for maternity services in Wales.
In the UK we know that being on the wrong side of inequality leads to disadvantages throughout life. Karen Jewell argues that the foundations of good health and wellbeing can be set before birth and that parents’ pregnancy and birth experiences are an essential part of that.
At the Wales & South West Maternity & Midwifery Festival, she laid out the most important parts of the 5 Year Vision for maternity services in Wales and discussed the results from the 2018 Parliamentary Review of Health & Social Care in Wales.
