Steph Wild, Founder and Chris Binnie, Trustee of the charity Beyond Bea give a presentation discussing “When choice is taken away: empowering families when facing decisions about baby loss” at the London Maternity & Midwifery Festival 2020.
Beyond Bea is a charity focusing on raising awareness about baby loss and bereavement and educating health care professionals in order to improve bereavement care.
Beyond Bea recognise that not all health professionals deliver the same high standard of care when diagnosing and supporting families during the loss of a baby. This is often due to lack of training and inexperience.
The aim of the charity is to ensure that all health professionals and students are offered free bereavement education and training. Training is offered by other organisations at present but, this is mostly at high cost and is often not a priority for many healthcare providers to fund. This therefore makes training inaccessible for many.
The end goal is to ensure that a high standard of bereavement care becomes the norm and families have the opportunity to create ever lasting memories.
The Beyond Bea logo is based on an elephant due to ongoing fascination with them throughout the pregnancy of Bea. This became Bea’s symbol and now serves as the icon for the charity.
