We are a unique collective of parents and professionals working together to make birth better for all, including the road before and the journey beyond. We exist to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of birth trauma through clinically-led training, support and campaigning.

Birth trauma describes symptoms of trauma relating to birth and/or circumstances around the birth. Between 25-40% of women in the UK find some aspect of their birth traumatic and between 3-8% of women who give birth in the UK will suffer from postnatal PTSD. Birth trauma causes a ripple effect and effects partners and professionals too.

We believe that birth can be better. We drive systemic change through the provision of expert-led training including a wide range of free resources. For a full overview of our training click here. As well as training, at Make Birth Better we also:

Support parents and professionals: Our online support resources, social media, blog and signposting work consistently helps people to validate their difficulties, articulate their experiences and seek support.

Run a volunteer programme: our Champions Community is a growing network of over 200 parents and professionals in the field. They volunteer their time and skills to work together with our team on awareness and campaigns.

Deliver campaigns: We run two campaigns. No More Excuses demands increased investment in maternity services and Think Trauma Now aims to make everyone aware of birth trauma.
