Antoinette Doherty
Antoinette Doherty is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Fellow of the Faculty of Nursing at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, specialising in respiratory integrated care. With over 30 years of clinical experience—including seven years at the Royal Brompton National Heart and Lung Hospital in London—she has dedicated her career to transforming patient-centered respiratory care.
As a founding member of Donegal’s Community Acute Respiratory Excellence (CARE) Virtual Ward, Antoinette helped pioneer Ireland’s first digital health initiative for COPD management, successfully reducing hospital admissions and improving patient quality of life. The programme, originally funded under Sláintecare, has now been sustained locally.
Currently a PhD scholar at RCSI, Antoinette’s research examines the social return on investment of virtual wards, focusing on patient empowerment, early detection of deterioration, and equitable access to technology-enabled care. She holds postgraduate qualifications in Advanced Practice and Health Care Innovation from Trinity College Dublin.
