Dr Wayne Thompson

Dr Wayne Thompson is an Assistant Professor (Ad Astra Fellow) at UCD, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems. He is a Registered General Nurse, Nurse Prescriber and Advanced Nurse Practitioner [Emergency]. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Emergency Nursing from University College Dublin (2004), a Master of Science in Nursing [Emergency] from Waterford Institute of Technology (2007), a Master of Education from Institute of Technology, Carlow (2014) and completed his PhD at UCD in June 2022. His doctoral thesis was a discourse analysis of the positioning and role of the ANP in the Irish Healthcare System. Dr Thompson is the Programme Director for the Graduate Diploma Emergency Nursing (Adult) and lectures on the MSc Nursing – Advanced Practice (ANP). His main area of clinical research interest relates to advanced nursing practice development in the emergency and trauma settings.
